Since we went to Oktoberfest in 2015, I keep getting emails from them promoting upcoming events. Earlier this week I got an email titled, “Have you tried this Oktoberfest food?” The food was as good, or better, than the beer, so I was intrigued. Sure enough we had a lot of the food mentioned in this article.
If you’ve not been to Oktoberfest, do yourself a favor and go. It is tops. We planned to go once… Ended up going all 4 days we were in Munich! It is so much fun… A carnival, really, with huge tents serving giant mugs of beer. Hard to believe it’s been 2 year since we were there. But I have many memories of our visit. The beer, sure… But the food.
This article featured all of the popular food you can get at Oktoberfest including pretzels, hendl (half chicken) and Wiener Schnitzel. We had them all, and REALLY enjoyed the hendl and the pretzels. I’ve never had a pretzel so hard on the outside yet so chewy on the inside. It was an experience I will remember for many years to come.
Past the food, and the beer, our good friend Axel came to meet us for a night. I will never forget seeing him here, drinking authentic German beers with him, then falling asleep in the car on the way back to the hotel! Axel and his wife then met us in Prague and we had an amazing time together. They are truly our best friends, yet they live so far away.
When you attend Oktoberfest, take it all in. Visit each tent, drink lots of beer and order what sounds good. You won’t be sorry. If I were in Munich this year for Oktoberfest, you can bet I am getting a pretzel and a hendel. Prost!
