Last week I got a package in the mail. I opened it up and it was a wooden bottle opener from Brouwerij Rodenbach. Neat! We don’t really need another bottle opener, but this one is pretty cool. Before I try to explain it, they were nice enough to include a postcard that explained it.
This authentic bottle opener is made from the foeders used to age Rodenbach’s legendary beer.
We have 294 foeders at our brewery in Belgium, each holding 5,000 gallons of beer. They’re hand-made using 150-year old French oak, and are built to last for 150 years.
That means the bottle opener in your hands is made of 300 year-old woo, and has seen countless gallons of Rodenbach during the last 200 years of brewing.
Pretty cool, right? I have no idea where it came from or who sent it, but I am not complaining. Sort of like the Tiger Woods signed SI issue I got before I left the corporate office. We haven’t used it yet. Perhaps we need to get a Belgian beer to honor such a stories bottle opener. Cheers!
